Cranio-sacral Therapy

 Cranio-sacral Therapy

Cranio-sacral Therapy is a bodywork modality that utilizes gentle manipulation of the skull and tissues to relieve pain and tension, and deeply relax the central nervous system. Relaxing this system helps release toxins and allows the body’s natural rhythms and healing mechanisms to kick in.

In the early 1900’s, while studying at the American School of Osteopathy in Kirksville, Missouri, Osteopathic physician William G. Sutherland, pioneered the concept that the bones of the cranium move in relation to each other and the sacrum in “rhythmic synchrony.”  Cranio-sacral therapy developed after extensive scientific research, and was promoted by osteopaths such as John E. Upledger.

The technique requires a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system – comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.
